Pearl Harbor Memorial Day; I knew a man who was there

Pearl Harbor Memorial Day Parson Rayphe; Bibical counseling, deliverance, inner healing, Pastor, home church, small groupsBefore he passed on, I was friends with a man who was in the army and on duty in Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, the day Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese.

Eyewitness account of the attack on Pearl Harbor
The man told me that he was at a radio site with a couple of other guys up on a hill.  They heard some commotion but  didn’t know what was happening.  Pretty soon an airplane approached their location.  Their radar site was up on a ridge, with another ridge across the way, and a deep ravine in between.

The plane flew between the ridges, at eye level with my friend.  The pilot of the Japanese zero smiled and waved as he passed by.

A part of American History
My friend went on about other events of the day but it was a very sobering experience for me to realize that standing before me was a part of American history.

Now older and somewhat unsteady, this man had once stood tall as a defender of American freedom and part of the “Greatest Generation”.

Another eyewitness account of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor
Following is another first hand witness testimony with a similar story.  The accounts of men drowning in burning oil and ships that became tombs are harrowing.

December 7th is Pearl Harbor Memorial Day; “A day that will go down in infamy”.

God bless you, may God bless America.

I’ll see you out in the field,
Chaplain Rayphe
